INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES / GEOGRAPHY
Nevşehir University Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established with the Law No. 5662 dated 17 May 2007. The Department of Geography, within the body of Nevşehir University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was established in 2015. In 2017, it started accepting graduate students.
Qualification Earned
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a Master of Science (Science Specialist) diploma in Geography.

Admission and Registration Conditions
In the fields specified for the master's program, the number of candidates who are ranked by calculating the undergraduate diploma (graduation grade), ALES and foreign language scores are accepted as original and substitute students in the amount of the announcement. Documents required for registration; 1 – Undergraduate Diploma, 2 – ALES Result Certificate. 3 - Original of Identity Card 4 - Foreign Language Certificate (ÜDS, KPDS etc.) 5 - Military Status Certificate. 6 - CV
Recognition of Prior Learning
The process of recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions is still in its infancy. Therefore, the recognition of prior learning has not been fully initiated in all programs of Nevşehir University.
Qualification Requirements and Rules
In order to obtain a master's degree in Geography, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses in the program and take at least 24 credits. Must prepare a thesis after finishing the course period
Program Profile
In master's programs, it is aimed to equip students with the most up-to-date information in the relevant program area and to renew existing knowledge. The goal of the program; To raise a qualified workforce with advanced analysis and problem solving skills, able to think critically and creatively, establish and maintain effective relationships, implement teamwork in the most effective way, take initiative, manage risk and change, and act within the framework of business ethics while doing all these. With this program, students will have the opportunity to understand the factors surrounding businesses with a global understanding and will have taken important steps in making a difference both personally and professionally. At the end of the program, students gain a solid foundation to be able to work in their own fields both in Turkey and all over the world.

OP-1 To develop and deepen the undergraduate knowledge of geography to the level of expertise.
PO-2 To reach, interpret and apply geographical information through scientific research.
PO-3 To be able to develop and use limited or incomplete geographical knowledge with scientific methods.
PO-4 To be able to develop spatial solutions by researching a problem related to geography.
PO-5 To be able to follow the current developments in geography and in this context to have verbal and written communication skills in at least one foreign language.
PO-6 To interpret the geographical information obtained through research and to transfer it to others in writing, verbally and visually by considering ethical values.
OP-7 To be able to develop new policy and implementation plans on geography-related issues.
OP-8 To have sufficient computer software and hardware knowledge about geography and to be able to use them effectively.
OP-9 Analyze the theoretical information about geography.

Employment Profile of Graduates
Graduates from the Department of Geography, land observation, land use planning, regional planning, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Science, map drawing, map library, remote sensing, aerial photography interpretation, cartography, education, international relations, geopolitics, marketing analysis, may work in the fields of recreational resource planning, health protection planning, water resource management, urban planning, community expertise, soil science, transportation planning and earth science. In addition, graduates of the department have the opportunity to work in educational institutions in the public and private sectors. At the same time, those who want to do academic work have the opportunity to do master's and doctorate in their own branches. Graduate students can work as academic staff in various universities.
Transition to Senior Programs

Exams, Assessment and Evaluation
Each student must register for the courses at the beginning of the semester and must attend at least 70% of the courses in order to take the final exam. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam (the scores obtained from measurement tools such as homework, laboratory exam, quiz, etc.) to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. It is obligatory to get at least 70 points from the final exam.
Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, to pass all the courses available in the program (equivalent to 120 ECTS), to achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 70 out of 100, and a load. Successful completion of the undergraduate thesis is required.

Department Facilities
In the Department of Geography, there are sufficient number of classrooms equipped with computers, projectors and similar multimedia equipment for theoretical lessons. In addition, the department has a Geography laboratory open to students with various materials and visuals to practice the theoretical courses, and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) laboratory designed to help students acquire skills related to the use of computer technologies in Geography Science. The academic staff of the department consists of a professor, three associate professors, and two doctoral faculty members, and two administrative personnel serve in the department.
