The goals of the program and its advantages:
Not only has .anatolia been the center of almost all the important civilizations; it is also the richest area of all in terms of the historic and cultural inheritance that they have inherited us. It is the duty of the geography department to teach the values in this historic and resourceful geography that were created by the civilizations and the physical and the geographical features in the Cappadocia region, and to grow researchers in this domain. Our program aims to raise competent individuals to manage so.
Geography department is a branch that creates and implements scientific information on a global basis through research. It is sensitive to modern, democratic and ethical merits easily adjusting to changing circumstances. In this sense, it is a pioneering department. The sections of geography pose the traits to easily be adaptable to nev circumstances throughout the world since the 1990’s to the present day.
Geography is an interdisciplinary department having the capacity to present many job opportunities. Geographers work in many areas such as education, environment and disaster management, city and district planning, local and regional development and market research. Geography department graduates may also work as teachers in the conditions set by the ministery of education in public and private educational institutions. They can also teach at private teaching institutions. If they have completed their master’s degree, they also have the scientific competency to work in city government. Besides, geographers can also continue their studies at universities as well as they can be instructors at various degrees.
The people in the world have met many discoveries such as Geographican Information System and Distance Recognition due to geography. This only is one of the developments foregrounding the eminence of geography. The roots of globalisation have been traced back to the 16th centuryby geographers. Besides, geography has embarked on a structuring where human-environment relations, quantitative and qualitative research methods are cared about. Under this light shed, geography, so, the departments of geography is a branch of science that can make a huge distinction in close areas according to the proxinodistal principle. Although geography chooses all the world as its scope to study, becaause the priority is to be given to the place or close to the place the department has been settled, and the department has been settled in Nevşehir, it means that the main scope of study is to be around Nevşehir. The fact that the province is close to many economic and social interaction fields, the most important one of which is tourism signifies the reason that the department is so valuable, because the department is capable of producing teachers and experts regarding environment, tourism, economiy, society and strategy.
Scopes of geography are going to determine and put forward the features of each geography in terms of where they are located due to the proximodistal principle; thus, city planning, transportation, the determiation of natural potentials, developmental plans and future strategic plans can be determined in each geographical scopes. So, geographers aim to work in many different fields like education, environmental and disaster management, city and district planning, and local and regional development.
The place of the program in academic and technological developments
The topic of humane and financial geography is human and their activties in the world. Depending on this, it reveals humans’ economic and social natures. In other words; how the diffusion on Earth is, how people perceive environment and how they use it, how people organize the fields constituting the Earth are the main interests of geography.
The department of physical geography has the sub topics climate, geology, geographical formations, flora, earth and water. Given these, physical geographers are interested in matters like weather events, the present and future states of water resources, deformations on coasts, forests, the reasons to sea contamination, etc. Most basicly, geography, which deals with world in which we live helps us get to know about it. Geography is interdisciplinary as it tackles the topics earth, humans, places and environment. Thus, geography have similar fields like social sciences and physical sciences.
The regional geography department defines its topics by dealing with the geographical phenomena on the regional bases.
Turkish geography department has Turkey as its main focus. It grounds on what the subterranean, terrestrial and human resources there are on our country and how they can be managed.
The suggested program is compatable with the Bologna Process. Our lessens are designed in compliance with Erasmus student exchange program which is on an international basis. However, because we think that higher education doesnt only aim at growing staff for jobs, we also believe that the mission to raise modern individuals that care for national and international values and that are to be beneficial to their own nation; and this is the policy we depend on defining our optional lessons. We believe that this policy is going to make a difference among all the other programs.
